As we continue to deal with housing availability and affordability in our city, ADUs is one part of a larger effort to address this challenge. We should allow their use, contingent with state laws, and empower multi-generational family households on one property, plus other beneficial uses. Remember, their use as vacation rentals can be controlled by individual HOAs, negating potential objections. The most effective way to provide more affordable housing is to provide more housing.
I would only support ADU's if there is a provision that they cannot be used for the purpose of vacation rentals or any other short-term rentals. There must be language added to any zoning ordinance for this including real financial penalties for violating it.
Accessory Dwelling Units aka ADU’s. We are in favor of allowing owners of single-family homes in Plantation to have the right to build accessory dwelling units as long as the use of these dwelling units do not allow for Vacation Rentals or any other short-term rental. This should be clearly stipulated in any zoning changes that would permit the building of these ADU’s.
