I wholeheartedly support the ordinance to legalize ADU's in Plantation. This will allow for the creation of new housing options which can help address our housing affordability crisis, and allow property owners the right to choose what to do with their own property.
This approach is ill-suited for many of our legacy HOA managed neighborhoods; particularly those who cannot rely upon the city for their infrastructure upkeep. For all the reasons provided in our separate emails to the Mayor and Council along with our online petition which, after only 24 hours, has garnered 125 verified signatures, there are too many unanswered questions to proceed. This proposal must be tabled without a first reading.
I'm writing in support of the ADU ordinance. Owners should have the right to do what they want with their property.
I'm greatly in support of ADUs. ADUs increase density, affordability, and diversity. ADUs are an investment in properties and provide rental income. For the issue of short term rentals or AirBnBs, minimum lease terms of one month or longer will help avoid it.
As a former Plantation resident who had to move out of the city in part due to the housing prices, I am writing you in support of this agenda item and ADUs. Given that Broward County is one of the most unaffordable places to live in the country, we should be doing everything within our power to support affordable housing options, and ADUs are a step toward ensuring that families can continue to live in Plantation.
I am in support of ADU's as a Plantation Acres Resident.
I won’t be able to attend in person on 11/29, but I am in support of ADUs. ADUs is a source of affordable housing that is sorely needed in one of the most expensive states to live in 🏡💸
Affordable housing is needed for our residents and workers. We have a housing crisis and ADUs are a good way to provide more housing in Plantation while supporting homeownership. ADUs are a step in building the workforce housing that Plantation needs so people who work in Plantation can continue to live in it.
I am in support of ADUs. As a resident millennial that can't afford to purchase a home in Plantation, I recognize that affordable housing is needed badly. We have a housing crisis and ADUs are a good way to provide more housing in Plantation while supporting homeownership.
As a Plantation resident that has been attending city council meetings for months, I’m happy to see that this ordinance is finally coming to fruition!
We have a housing crisis in this country and we’ve seen at least one of the Plantation-based victims come into a meeting and voiced how they could no longer afford to live in Plantation despite working in the city. Allowing ADUs to be built by right will increase the supply of housing and therefore help reduce the cost of housing.
This is great. I'm so glad to see this getting done. Not only is this really good for the housing stock, but young people will have expanded options when looking for starter homes, families can stay closer together without sacrificing privacy, and older people can age in place. Everyone wins. Plus, it's about time people had the freedom to do what they want with their property.
I fully support allowing ADU's on properties within Plantation citywide by right within the zoning code. This will return more control to property owners to do what they want with their own property and will help alleviate our housing crisis by allowing for dynamic types of housing and allowing growing/aging families to live close together.
I won't be able to attend this meeting, but I wanted to express my full support for allowing ADUs citywide. This allows residents to add affordable housing stock to the city at zero cost to the city, allows residents to make money on their property, be able to keep family members and friends close by, and helps empty nesters looking to downsize to be able to stay in their neighborhoods. Airbnbs shouldn't be a concern, requiring owner-occupancy means owner has to deal with nuisances directly.
Please do not allow this to be the path for more short term vacation rentals. Consider approving this in only some portions of the city to see how it goes before a city wide rollout. Septic system tank and drain field sizes are typically based on total household size. ADUs may need a separate system as the primary dwelling’s system may not have the capacity to support more occupants. Properties on septic and neighborhoods with a history of drainage issues and flooding should be excluded at first
