I fully support this. It's a win for everyone, and the staff really took their time doing a lot of in-depth research while writing it. They know what they're talking about. Our communities are overcome with car traffic and absolutely begging for alternatives. This ordinance will make those alternatives possible.
I fully support this as a first step to more affordable housing, walkable spaces, and less car dependency. Parking mandates are based on pseudoscience and have contributed to massive amounts of wasted land. The City of Plantation should fully eliminate minimum off-street parking requirements citywide.
We need housing to be concentrated around transit stations. This will alleviate traffic congestion and give residents the option to use a cleaner, safer, and easier ride in the city. We cannot continue to build around cars when 39% of carbon emissions in the US are accounted from transportation. This TOD will serve as a release valve for new development that keeps it from coming in suppressed and unmanageable spurts elsewhere because it wasn’t allowed here. This is the key to sustainable growth.
I support making the city more walkable and building more homes closer to where people work!
Regardless of where you live in Plantation, this is a meaningful step for our continuing prosperity. If you love the "city life", this ensures we can create a walkable midtown where you won't need a car adding traffic, can support local businesses, and spend money locally. If you prefer the more suburban or rural character, this is also good! This helps "protect" your area from development, by focusing it in the city center area. Plus, this helps your traffic concerns, too. A win for everyone!
